What is 'Path to Pain Free'?

A comprehensive Pain recovery program

Path to Pain Free is designed to empower individuals in managing and overcoming chronic pain and associated conditions. This online program emphasizes a self-guided approach while providing 24/7 support from experienced professionals.

The foundational philosophy rests on three pivotal pillars:

  1. Connection: Facilitating a deeper understanding of the mind-body relationship and fostering community among participants, enhancing the healing experience.

  2. Support: Offering continuous access to expert guidance and resources to navigate the challenges of pain recovery effectively.

  3. Accountability: Establishing personal responsibility in the healing journey, encouraging consistent progress and motivation throughout the program.

Managed by TMS experts and MindBody Practitioners, Miriam Gauci Bongiovanni and Duncan Clarke, the Path to Pain Free program benefits from their extensive insights and experience. Their expertise, grounded in the principles outlined in their original Path to Pain Free ebook, ensures that participants receive effective tools and strategies tailored to their unique needs. This holistic approach aims not only to alleviate pain but also to promote overall well-being. Miriam and Duncan will answer all questions posted in the dedicated Facebook Group.

The latest Scientific research.

Path to Pain Free is a transformative program using advanced pain neuroscience to significantly improve chronic pain. Developed over a decade through research and personal recovery, it addresses the underlying mechanisms of pain. Scientific insights show that chronic pain arises from the nervous system's adaptive response to perceived threats, stress, anxiety, and worry. This program emphasises the importance of understanding the relationship between the mind and body and how to recalibrate pain signals. By applying the latest neuroscience principles, individuals can uncover the true causes of their symptoms, aiming for symptom relief and fostering long-term recovery to improve quality of life.

Mind body discovery

The integration of meditation, mindfulness, play, and movement is essential for achieving a pain-free life. These practices work together to help down-regulate pain signals while addressing the mental, emotional, and physical aspects of health. Engaging in such activities not only creates a more harmonious environment but also supports the self-integration process necessary for recovery.

Over time, this holistic approach promotes homeostasis, crucial for long-term recovery from Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS), chronic pain and other psychophysiological disorders (PPD). Actively practicing relaxation and joy not only assists in managing pain but also fortifies resilience against stressors that may trigger discomfort. By incorporating these techniques into daily routines, individuals can foster a sense of well-being and develop a deeper connection with their body and mind.

Ultimately, the journey toward recovery is multifaceted, but by implementing simple cognitive and lifestyle changes sustainable changes can be achieved, resulting in a complete change in the perception of pain. This comprehensive approach not only aids in healing but also enriches the overall quality of life.

How can the program help with Chronic Pain Recovery?

The Program helps people tackle a variety of chronic pain conditions by working with the connection between the body, brain and nervous system.

This is NOT to say that your symptoms are ‘all in your head’ - far from it! All kinds of sensations are registered by the brain - we wouldn’t be able to feel anything if it weren’t for our nervous system!

When pain or symptoms become chronic, the brain has learnt how to work with the body to keep reproducing them more easily and the nervous system has become ‘sensitised’. Our perception of pain is altered depending on our past and present experiences, and our pain levels depend on the emotions, beliefs and behaviours we act out on a daily basis - most of which we are not even conscious of.

The pain response always happens as a means to ‘protect’ us from danger - but sometimes, this response is fired unnecessarily, as our nervous system ‘overreacts’ and becomes amplified and sensitised.

The truth is that we can soothe this over amplification of pain. You can stop your brain/body from generating pain that no longer serves you and you can literally ‘un-program’ your automatic pain cycle! The Path to Pain Free Program will help you to understand these concepts at a deeper level, while connecting you to a larger community and teaching you the tools, techniques and strategies necessary to soothe your way out of pain allowing you to integrate yourself back into life as you once knew it.

I wanted to share with you.. I ran yesterday. Not far! Not for long, but on my dog walk... I ran!!!

…my body feels incredible. Yesterday I had just a mild headache and same today. Usually by Wednesday afternoon I’m in a full migraine!!

How to Make the Most of this Program.

Suggestion 1 - Curiosity & an open mind.

We recommend that you approach this program as you would approach a new venture - with curiosity and an open mind. Most importantly, we advise you not to skip any sections or task just because you feel that you’ve already tackled that aspect, or because you think that it doesn’t apply to you.

Tackling chronic pain from all angles and looking into all the factors that may be contributing to it is the best way to overcome it. And sometimes, we stumble across a new revelation or a missing piece of the puzzle when we least expect it!

Suggestion 2 - ConsistEncy and commitment.

Another important aspect that we must stress is consistency. This program will challenge you to undertake certain mindset shifts and to develop new thought habits. Since habits are built by repeating an activity day after day, it is important to follow through the program and to practice the exercises recommended so that you can turn things around as fast as possible.

We therefore recommend that you set aside 30 to 40 minutes each day for this program. If you wish to read a TMS book alongside the program it would be a good idea (I recommend Dr Sarno’s The Mind body Prescription). Aside from that, no more is needed from your end, since we don’t wish you to get overwhelmed with too much information and experience emotional overload.

suggestion 3 - There is no rush!

We advise against rushing through the program, and to tackle no more than one lesson per day. You can also feel free to take a break from it once or twice a week, or when you feel you need it to give your mind time to process all the information learnt during that week and to take some well-deserved time out. In fact, relaxation and taking time out to enjoy yourself is part and parcel of healing from TMS. It can be difficult to recover until you learn how to prioritise your own leisure and happiness.
